Abandon Office Space Birmingham, Al
Situated in downtown Birmingham, Ala. This warehouse was
built in 1959 by A&P (The Great Atlantic & Pacific
Tea Company) grocery chain at the height of there business
venture. The powers that be didn't want to spread out to
the suburbs. Poor decisions and late actions to stave off
the losses mounted.
Year after year more stores closed and ownership changed a
few times.
Fast forward to 1983. A plastic manufacturer bought the
125,000 sq. ft. warehouse and added on to the east side of
the building another 67,000 sq. ft. Which served them until
1991.
The current owner had plans to occupy the upper offices but
finances and other personal considerations changed and thus
it has sat in ruins.
A Toledo Scale still sits in the main office. It's a
model 2780 Printweigh 400.
Brought to market by Toledo Scale in 1958. At the time it
was "state of the art".
Capacity is 100,000 lbs. A smaller in-house scale (that one
has seen better days) has a capacity of 3,125 lbs.
