The Peru, Indiana Five Star Store
The Peru, Indiana Five Star
Store opened in the early 1970s on the north end of town. The store flourished,
expanded, and even bought another store. The 90s saw a steep decline in the
store and it closed in September 2006, in early 2007 the store was bought by
Alco/Duckwall stores which opened up a new store in May 2007.
The building shows details from the 70s and the 80s as well as a few remnants of
the 90s. Very little new equipment was installed after 1980 however and
extremely little after 2000. Here are some pictures I took the day after it
closed. Don't worry, I was an employee and I was just about to finish up
emptying the frozen food section.

The Delicatessen
The Delicatessen again, paper signs saying that the Deli was closed.

A register station a month before the store closed, the only other place I've
seen registers like this is the CSI episode "Paper or Plastic"
Map of the store I put together.
Stack of old registers laying in the back room, We Card sign indicates they have
been in the building for about 9 years (8 when the picture was taken).
Early 70s photo of the exterior of the store.
Stock image of the exterior of the store used by the local paper before it was
closed.
Image from a documentary on Peru's economic situation showing the store
abandoned a couple months after the closing.
The big street sign then.
The big street sign now.
I DON'T GIVE OUT LOCATIONS. I DON'T KNOW IF THE BUILDINGS ARE FOR SALE. I DON'T KNOW IF THE BUILDINGS ARE STILL STANDING.
