Abandoned house on Rt. 79 in
Marlboro, New Jersey
"Ere thou enter farther in such mysteries, comprehend..."
It was a couple years ago when I first became acquainted with this
deteriorating house, staring woefully at me through a somewhat thick patch of
thorns and brush, as I traveled down Rt. 79. My curiosity beckoned me to take a
closer look, but at the time there appeared to be someone either living next to
or possibly in the house, so I thought it better to just take a quick look
around the outside and leave it at that for the time being. I'm not,
however, particularly fearful of encountering a vagrant or someone else, as my
large stature, clad in black with scowl firmly supplanted on my face, would most
likely scare them away, not vice versa. In any event, I recently took a trip
back, and decided to explore the inside of the house. The usual signs of
partying were evident; spray paint,
beer cans, vandalism. Almost the entire back of the house, as is evident by the
photos, is practically split away from the rest, and the floor in what I surmise
was the kitchen is essentially non-existent, now nothing more than a straight
drop into the basement. One can assume that this is due solely to the passage of
time, and the unforgiving ravages of the elements, and not just some forceful
vandals. The lack of "No Trespassing" signs, and the rather lackadaisical way in
which the house was boarded up, have no doubt made it an easy refuge for
vagrants and wayward partiers.
